AstraZeneca today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved SYMBICORT® (budesonide/formoterol) for the maintenance treatment of asthma in patients age 12 and older. SYMBICORT is a twice-daily asthma therapy combining budesonide, an inhaled corticosteroid, and formoterol, a rapid and long-acting beta2-agonist into one inhaler. [click link for full article]

LONDON (AFX) - AstraZeneca PLC said on Saturday it has won earlier than expected approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its asthma drug Symbicort but does not plan to launch it into the American market until mid 2007.
